All Pro Dad is a national non-profit program to support dads in their family roles to love and guide their children in their personal and academic lives. Monthly meetings, give Dads and kids a chance to have breakfast together and engage with their children in a guided format. The main goal is to reinforce for your child that you are involved in their educational lives.
SWES students look forward to the Scholastic Book Fair every year! Encouraging a love of reading is the goal, providing reading material for homes and classrooms. The money raised from the Book Fair is used to purchase materials for the Media Center. This is very important as the Media Center receives $0 from Guilford County.
Boosterthon is the largest fundraiser at Southwest Elementary. Proceeds pay for educational enhancements and technology. During the Boosterthon, students ask for donations to support the Fun Run, also known as Cowboy Stampede. Boosterthon provides fun and engaging ways for students to learn about social and emotional health in the weeks before the Fun Run.

Southwest Elementary is proud of the many different cultures at our school. We are always looking for opportunities to share our cultural diversity and teach our students about the world in which we live. The Cultural Arts Committee plans fun, educational assemblies for students throughout the year. Multicultural Night, held in the Spring, brings families and students together to celebrate one another, sample food, see traditional dances and demonstrations.
Field Day is a two-day event held in May of each year and gives students the opportunity to put their physical education skills to work.
Reflections is a National PTA art program. Students create original works of art in response a student-selected theme. The theme for the 2019-2020 program year is Look Within. Students submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts.
Students and families are invited for a fun meal with Friends and Family throughout the year at area restaurants. PTA receives a portion of the proceeds to pay for programs and events. Invite everyone you know to join us - eating in or drive through - just tell them to say they are supporting Southwest Elementary!
In 2020-2021, SWES PTA will provide school supply assistance for students in need. This program is currently in development with more details to follow.
A clean and pleasing environment helps the school community take pride in themselves and provides an enhanced environment for teaching and learning. SWES PTA hosts events throughout the year to improve our school environment and build community throughout the school. From Sensory Paths to Sidewalk Chalk Days and school grounds clean up events, the SWES community comes together!
The staff at Southwest Elementary school are a cornerstone of the school’s success. The Staff Appreciation committee supports and celebrates the staff throughout the year, recognizing staff birthdays and life events. Additionally, a week-long celebration honors our staff for Staff Appreciation Week each Spring.
Students at Southwest benefit from a broad range of Technology and Educational Enhancement assistance provided by the PTA. This program has provided iPads, laptops, headphones, smart boards, physical education equipment, art supplies, STEM supplies, books, and online educational tools for school use. In 2020-2021, we will continue helping to build 21st Century learning environments for SWES. children and staff.
Students at Southwest have a multitude of talents, not all of which are on display in the classroom. The Annual Talent Show is an opportunity for students to showcase their special talents for the school community. The Talent show is held in the Spring and is open to students in the 3rd through 5th grades. We are always amazed at all of the unique skills and abilities the students display!
Each year, students and families look forward to celebrating their year in education. The PTA coordinates development of the School Yearbook to help preserve memories and contributes to the end of year celebrations that mark the students' rites of passage.
